French Dip Sandwiches
I promise I will get some recipes on here for dinner that are not made in a crock pot/slow cooker... But honestly some great food comes out of those little contraptions!
This recipe is one of the easiest to make, and liked by everyone. Mr. Whicker loves French Dips now... He wasn't so sure the first time I placed one of these bad boys in front of him; he has since come to see the error of his ways! We made these for a family Super Bowl party last year, we didn't leave with much to take home!
French Dip Sandwiches, Family Favorite Recipes
2-3 lb oven roast
2 cans beef broth (about 4 cups)
2 pkgs Lipton Onion Soup Mix
white Italian sub rolls (We get ours from Subway, they sell a 12" roll for 50 cents!)
provolone cheese slices
Put oven roast in crock pot. Add beef broth and soup mix. Cook on low 7-8 hours. Shred roast with a fork, and return shredded beef to crock pot for a few more minutes. Slice open bread, and place a good amount of beef on one side, top beef with cheese slices. Broil open sandwich in oven for a few minutes, until the cheese gets melted and bubbly. Remove from oven, and serve with a ladle of au-jus left in crock pot.

Too cute! I'm so glad you are doing this. You have wanted to do this forever. I made french bread and cinnamon rolls from scratch this week. It was awesome. I can send you the recipes if you would like.
what kind of roast did you use
I'm making this today, using a chuck shoulder roast
I bought whatever roast was on sale. I honestly don't even know.what type. But it was good. I may cut the broth and the soup mix down a little the au jus was slighlty salty. My husband had 3 sandwiches
I made this tonight. It was the easiest thing I've ever made & it was completely delicious!
Trying it with a deer roast tomorrow...can't wait to see how it turns out!
sounds yummy and easy, stealing it! : )
I love french dip sandwiches. One of my all time favs. I'll have to make this soon!
This is in my crockpot right now!! Can't wait to get home tonight to try it!
So excited to try this tomorrow for Monday Night Football! Any guess on how many a 2-3 lb roast can feed?
I do these all the time, but I use 2 packs of McCormicks Au Jus mix, one large Vidalia onion, cracked peppercorns and 2 fresh garlic cloves halved.
I usually use French bread from the bakery and swiss cheese
Made this tonight, and it was delicious! I added an extra cup of water to mine. I think I'll saute up some peppers and onions next time to go on the sandwich. I'll be making this one again!
I am going to have to try this. However, I will use low sodium beef broth since the soup mix is pretty salty. I may even sub a can of French onion soup for 1 can of beef broth and 1 packet of soup mix and just add water or maybe a cup of red wine. Thanks for posting!!!
OK, everyone.
I do not cook. I mean I cook, just not very well.
I made this last night and it was sooooo good that we're having leftovers tonight.
I used sourdough rolls though.
This is one of those things that you can make for a bunch of guests, that you know will turn out well and doesn't cost too much.
Thanks for the recipe!
I had to put this recipe on my Haute Links (My favorite links) of the week on my site, www.hautecurvywoman.com with credit to you and your site, of course.
I hope this is alright with you.
If not, please let me know and I will take it off immediately.
I've got this in the crock pot...can't wait to try it tonight!
Found this on Pinterest this week and we tried it tonight. Can I say FANTABULOUS!! Hubby gives it 2 thumbs up. This will be in the rotation starting immediately. I did go to Subway and bought some Italian rolls, but they were expensive at $2 a piece. Hubby thinks this would be great on rolls like I use for Ham and Cheese sliders, so that is probably what we will try next. Thanks for a great recipe!
I'm in the process of crocking it now! Smells delicious!! Happy New Year!!!
Am trying this recipe today and it smells divine.I do agree however, the au jus is a tad bit salty. I just added more water and a sprinkle of sugar to cut the salt. Will post after dinner on the outcome. Thanks for such an easy answer to dinner!!
I want to try this tonight! Anyone know approximately how many servings it will make?
sounds amazing
I am making this for the second time. We loved it the first time we had it. I do agree that the au jus was a bit salty. I used low sodium broth this time. Tonight we are going to top with Giardiniera peppers. Next time maybe onions and green peppers. And so EASY!
I have been doing this for years! I love it!! My family loved it! Haven't done it in a while but putting it back on list. Good to know about Subway. Can't always find sourdough but there is a Subway close to us! Oh try some grilled onions on your sandwich! Adds a little something!
How did it turn out?
I made this using venison and it turned out wonderful! I used the Lipton onion soup with the beefy flavor and it tasted like beef. No gamey taste at all!
I'm making this now, and the meat seems to be extremely dry :-/ And I only did about 5-6 hours on low. I don't know if there's an issue with my crockpot or if I messed this up... I followed the directions on this recipe. What can I do to keep the meat moist?
A dear friend brought this dish to our house the second night we were home from the hospital after having our son. We continued to receive meals for 2 1/2 weeks. This dish was my husband's top two faves! It's in the CP now and our son is only 3 1/2 weeks old. Clearly, we love it!
Do you use the Au Jus mix instead of the beef broth or in addition to the broth?
Dumb question lol but with the Lipton Onion mix there are two packets in a box. Is it two or those packets or actually two boxes (4 packets)? Thanks!
This is a great recipe! I used 2 cans of low sodium beef broth, 1 pkg of Lipton onion soup mix and one packet of au jus mix. Turned out perfect! Thank you!
Just one french onion soup packet will do nicely!

We use a brisket and one can of chicken broth and one pkg onion soup mix. You can cook in oven at 250 overnight or in the crockpot and either cooking method it must cook for 8 hours.
Trying this tonight. Excited to taste it, smells yummy.
This is always an easy "go to" supper for my busy family of 6. We usually have plenty and everyone loves it. We make this all year round since so easy and yummy. One of my favorites for sure!! I love cooking with my crock pot since I'm so busy all day. It's basically a fix it and forget it meal.
You don't tell us about the onions and peppers if any in the picture? Not sure what all is there. Can you please tell me and send me a notification for your reply if possible? I'm making them tomorrow. Thank you.

Hi Denise! I did not use any peppers, or onions. You surely could! I would throw them in with the roast, and let them cook along with the meat. Then you would have super tender, yummy veggies to go on the sandwiches!
Enjoy!

Hmmm. I haven't had that issue! It could be the cut of beef you are using (some are super lean, and could give you a tougher roast?). Adding an extra can of beef broth should help keep it nice and juicy!

This is one of ito favorites. So easy! I throw it in the Crock-Pot before I go to work, and we come home to a house that smells amazing and a great home cooked meal. I've also used the leftover beef and added it to ramen, scrambled eggs, etc. So versatile!
